36 Exploring the Statistical Nature of Independent Chromosome Segments

Abstract Independent chromosome segments for a population with Ne effective size and L genome length can be approximately defined as 4NeL non-overlapping haplotypes of L/2 derived from any animals. The number independent (Me) approximated 4NeL. genetic selection genomic relationship matrix (GRM) using such approaches that GRM the SNP markers. objective this study was to investigate statistical nature segments. Data were simulated QMSim contained ten generations, each including 2,000 animals equal 20, polygenic trait heritability 0.6. last three generations genotyped, 1 M long chromosomes, total 10 50,000 SNP. Chromosome animal organized in by code in-house software written Fortran. effects hypothetical estimated model included an overall mean plus segment effects. To analyze behavior around Me, chosen estimate varied Accuracies calculated generation cor (TBV, Zsŝ), where Zs ŝ is vector breeding values based on TBV true outputted QMSim. compared accuracy, i.e., (TBV,GEBV). maximum accuracy 0.84, 0.96. results suggest contain most additive information population. However, GBLUP greater than effects, suggesting arranging solely not enough account all variation.
